Discovering Cinnamon: Free Herbal Activity Book

herbal remedies for kids

Is cinnamon a spice that is included in any of your traditional holiday foods? Gooey, fresh-baked cinnamon rolls or cinnamon sugar cookies? A dash of cinnamon on top of your cup of eggnog? This delicious, warming herb can be a favorite in the cold winter months.

This year, the LearningHerbs team has created a Discovering Cinnamon Activity Book so that you and your kids can explore the many gifts of cinnamon.

Did you know the cinnamon spice is the powdered bark of a tropical tree? The most common type of cinnamon available in the United states is Cinnamomum cassia, and it is native to Indonesia. Cinnamomum verum, also called Ceylon cinnamon is native to Sri Lanka. There are over 100 different varieties of cinnamon trees, but bark from these two are the most commonly available.

Learning About the Characteristics & Benefits of Cinnamon

When you dive into the activity book with your kids, you’ll learn some of the identifying characteristics of cinnamon trees. You’ll also see some common first aid issues that cinnamon can be helpful for, including helping to relieve sore muscles and toothaches. Some of these might surprise you!

Cinnamon is more than just a tasty spice, it’s also an herb with many healing gifts. You can learn all about these gifts in the Discovering Cinnamon Activity Book.

Easy Cinnamon Recipes for Kids

We’ve also included recipes for a cinnamon spice blend and cinnamon potpourri. Perhaps you and your kids will create a new favorite holiday recipe using the spice blend! You can place the potpourri in little dishes around your house just before your holiday parties to add a little extra scented ambiance. Or, maybe your kids would like to put them in decorated jars to give as holiday gifts this year.

Fun Activities with Cinnamon for Kids

You’ll find a word search in the activity book that will help your kids learn some of the characteristics of and uses for cinnamon while having fun finding the hidden words.

We’ve also included a coloring page so you finally will get to meet Zeylani, the cinnamon fairy from my Herb Fairies book series, by coloring him and making a fairy paper doll! Zeylani’s name comes from an older version of the species name of Cinnamomum verum.
