Refreshing Lavender Lemonade Your Kids Will Love: Lavenade

all remedies and recipes herbal remedies for kids

As a mother of seven children, it’s always wonderful when my children help with making herbal recipes. We create memories, we create traditions, and we create or try new recipes. When we go out, we collect our herbs and prepare them. It’s a memorable experience for all of us. I love when my children name the recipes — like our refreshing lavender lemonade!

One day while being in the kitchen, my son and I were making this drink, and he said to me “I love making lavenade!” I thought it was so cute that the name stuck with us.

Benefits of Lavender (Lavandula spp.)

Lavender is such an amazing aromatic herb. It relaxes the body, and with lavender’s volatile oil content it can soothe indigestion, even relieving gas and bloating. Lavender can be used for headaches, bites and stings, and so much more.

Lavender has been my go-to for years and a family favorite. It makes a wonderful end-of-the-day drink (especially in our refreshing lavender lemonade) to calm the mind and relaxes a body that has done so much all day. It is certainly an herb that is valuable, especially in this day and age. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, we can all appreciate the herbs that soothe and calm the nervous system. I tell people all the time that the world needs to have these types of herbs in their home — nervines and adaptogens.

Benefits of Lemon (Citrus limon)

What I love about herbalism is how we can benefit from herbs that are easily accessible. I love the smell of lemons. It’s very uplifting for my mood and has many benefits. With its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, lemon makes for an awesome preventative medicine.

Lemon is an herb that cleanses and helps with maintaining health. The juice of lemon is good for colds, flu, and even sore throats. When any of my children catches a cold, I make a blend of 1 tbsp of lemon juice, 2 1/2 tbsp of hot water, add one clove of crushed garlic, and have them drink up to three times daily.  Lemon also makes a great addition to herbal teas, and our refreshing lavender lemonade, of course!

How to make Lavenade: A Refreshing Lavender Lemonade

Lavenade has been our family’s favorite go-to on many spring and summer days. Not only is it a delicious blend of lavender and lemon, this refreshing lavender lemonade has quite a few benefits as well. It’s really a win-win!

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup dried lavender flowers
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Need herbs? Visit Mountain Rose Herbs.

Step One

  1. Make an infusion by boiling the water and then pouring the water over the lavender.
  2. Let it steep (covered) for 10 minutes.
  3. Strain and discard the lavender and put the water back into the pitcher.

Step Two

  1. Add the cold water, lemon juice and sugar.
  2. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Refrigerate your refreshing lavender lemonade before serving.

What I love about this refreshing lavender lemonade is that it can be easily adjusted depending on taste preference. This drink will have a strong lavender taste, which my children do not mind, but you can also reduce the amount of lavender used and same for sweetening it — you can add more or less sugar.

Either way, you’ll have a refreshingly beneficial drink.

I hope you and your family really enjoy this refreshing drink all summer long!
